Application Requirements

Applicants must complete and submit an application for the MS in Business Analytics program through the Apply Yourself system. The system allows applicants to save their work and return to it at any time. Supporting materials and the application fee can also be submitted through the online application system.

  • A guest profile and password are required to start the online application.
  • Select "Summer 2015" for "Entry Term" and "Business Analytics - MS" for "Intended Program."
  • Read the instructions below carefully before completing your application.

Transcripts for each institution of higher learning from which you have earned credit must be submitted with your on-line application, this includes partial or incomplete transcripts for all higher education courses. We allow for unofficial transcripts or academic records to be uploaded directly to the ApplyYourself on-line application. Non-English transcripts must be accompanied by an English translation. If admitted, you must submit official transcripts or academic records prior to your enrollment at the University of Minnesota.

Official Transcripts

All transcripts and academic records uploaded to the online application system are considered unofficial. If you are admitted, you must submit official transcripts or academic records before you enroll at the University of Minnesota. Official transcripts must be sent directly to the Graduate School Admissions Office from the institution. An official, certified (signature and seal) English translation must accompany non-English transcripts. For English language translation services in the Twin Cities area, click here. The University of Minnesota reserves the right to require the submission of official transcripts or credentials any time during the admission review process.

Test Information

Test Information

Complete the applicable sections on this page if you are submitting GRE, TOEFL, or IELTS scores. If you are submitting GMAT scores, you must select Business Analytics - MS as your proposed major/degree objective on the Application Information page to access the Master of Business Analytics page in the Department/Program Forms section. You can enter your GMAT information on the Master of Business Analytics page in the Department/Program Forms section.

The GMAT or GRE General Test is required for admission to the MS in Business Analytics program and should be less than five years old. For GMAT, arrange for the testing service to send an official score report to code D2N-VJ-05, Carlson Master of Science in Business Analytics. Results arrive 2-3 weeks after the test.

For GRE, arrange for the testing service to send an official score report using institution code 6874, U of MN graduate school. Results take up to 8 weeks to arrive.

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and the International Language Testing System (IELTS) are both accepted. For further details visit the international applicants page.

Upload a current resume that includes employment history, job responsibilities and accomplishments where prompted for Resume or CV. You do not need to provide any of the other documents listed on this page.

For consideration for admission, please submit a personal statement (750 words, approximately 2 pages max) answering the following three questions:

  • Briefly describe your short-term and long-term career goals. Why are you choosing to pursue an MS in Business Analytics and Data Science at this time, and what are you hoping to accomplish by doing so?
  • Why are you interested in pursuing an MS at the Carlson School of Management?
  • What do you feel makes you a strong candidate for the program? How will you contribute to the Program overall?

Write the Personal Statement as above and upload it as Statement #1. You do not need to upload documents for Statement #2 or Extenuating Circumstances.

Recommendations

Recommendations

We require three recommendations for application to the Master of Science in Business Analytics program. Enter your recommenders information on the Recommendations page to give your recommenders access to the recommendations system. Your recommenders can complete an online form and upload a document. Applicants do not have the ability to upload recommendation documents; do not send your recommendations directly to the program office. Recommendation documents must come directly from recommenders through the recommendations system.

Application Fee

The application fee is $75 (non-refundable) for U.S. citizens; and $95 for international applications and U.S. residents with foreign credentials. The application fee will be waived if the applicant has been on active duty in the U.S. military within three years of submitting an application.

Interview

Interview

Interviews for the program are by invitation only. Candidates will be contacted after the initial review of their application. If applicants are unable to attend an interview in person, arrangements can be made for a Skype interview.
