Graduate Business Career Center

The Graduate Business Career Center (GBCC) offers a wide range of services and resources to help Carlson School students prepare for career advancement and job searches. Top local and national companies recruit on campus each year, and we coordinate student treks to companies across the country.

Career Support

The GBCC will help you discover the career best suited to your interests, educational background, and professional goals. Some of the ways we can help are:

  • Career exploration
    Learning about yourself, the world of work, and where you best fit is an important first step for a successful business career, and GBCC provides valuable resources for this exploration process.
  • Interview Preparation
    All graduate students can conduct a practice interview with a career coach and get immediate feedback on their interviewing skills.
  • Resume and Cover Letter Assistance
    We'll help you customize your resume and cover letter to a specific type of employment opportunity.
  • Job search tools
    A well-planned job search strategy can help you stay focused and gain a competitive edge, whether launching or advancing your career, and we have several tools to make your job search easier and more efficient.
  • Networking
    We'll get you started with networking, both formally and informally. Networking is a process of connecting and building relationships with professionals, and involves giving and receiving help, information, and advice.
  • Offer Evaluation and Negotiation
    Talk one-on-one with a coach and obtain valuable Employment Statistics to help you make the most out of your offer.
  • Library resources
    We have the best, most up-to-date books on job search strategy, interviewing, resumes, and cover letters. You can check books out with your student ID at the GBCC office.
  • One-on-One Career Coaching
    Need career advice? Our professional career coaches can help with all aspects of your career development. From defining a business career that fits you best to negotiating job offers, your career coach will be with you every step of the way.
  • Express Advising
    Have a quick question and need to talk to a coach? GBCC coaches are "on call" several times throughout the week to answer your questions without having to make an appointment.
  • Skyway Advising
    Don't have time to leave work to come to the GBCC for a coaching appointment? GBCC staff are available to meet you at various locations throughout the metro area.

Career Advancement Opportunities

  • On-Campus Interviews
    Each year, more than 100 organizations recruit on-campus for internships and full-time opportunities, while another 300 companies use our external job posting system, TalentLink.
  • Company Information Sessions
    Company information sessions are an excellent opportunity for students to make an initial contact with a company representative. The company presentation gives you information about the company and position.
  • MBA Corporate Reception
    The MBA Corporate Reception is a networking event for MBA students and employers. This cocktail hour reception gives companies their first peek at the talented incoming MBA class, as well as talk with second year MBA students about their internship experience and career goals.
  • Career Exploration Conference
    The Career Exploration Conference is an annual fall eventgeared to help you become more knowledgeable about career options related to your degree. It's a great opportunity to meet and network with experienced professionals from top national and local companies in break-out panels organized by career field. Over 50 companies and panelists are represented.
  • Graduate Career Fair
    The Graduate Career Fair is an annual event for MBA and MA-HRIR students to network with experienced professionals from local small to mid-sized companies. These companies present information about their organizations and hiring needs in a career fair setting where you'll be able to visit the booths of each individual company, present your resume, and ask questions about the companies' hiring needs.
