Federal law, state law, and Regents' policy govern access to student records. The Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) as amended and the State of Minnesota Data Privacy Act form the backdrop for the policy on access to student records. Recent US Department of Education Regulations regarding FERPA have mandated additional record procedures.
Directory Information and Suppression
By default, some personal information is available on the University's Directory and Website after you activate your internet account. The "People Search" function allows you to search for yourself and find out what information is available to the public via the University's directory. You may suppress your address, email, and/or phone number online at One Stop and click on "Personal Information" in the right-hand sidebar. This same form is also used to REMOVE suppression.
