Sri Zaheer Speaking with Parents at the Annual Undergraduate Parents Winter Social

Proud Parents, Proud Dean

I recently had the pleasure of spending time with our students’ parents at the annual Undergraduate Parents Winter Social. It was such a treat to get to know the people who were responsible for our amazing students. And they are indeed amazing!

They arrive here as the best and brightest high school graduates and they flourish even more in this environment. They are earning their degree at the fastest rate at this University. They are winning national and international case competitions. They are founding businesses. And they are giving back to the Carlson School and the broader community.

These efforts and successes during their time here are being noticed and rewarded. Within 90 days of commencement, 94% of last year’s graduating class had accepted job offers...94%!!!  Not just any job, either. These are great jobs with a median starting salary of around $53,000.  I haven’t found another undergraduate program that can match what the Carlson School is doing to launch so many careers in business.

Our Undergraduate Business Career Center (UBCC) deserves an enormous amount of credit for these great placement statistics. I suppose it’s not surprising that a group as talented as they are is already working to best last year’s metrics and find new career opportunities for those students who wish to explore national and international placements.

We have seen a 30% increase in both the number of companies that attended the career fair and the number of student appointments that the UBCC held in September.  Some 500 individual appointments took place in the UBCC during the first month of school. It is no wonder that so many of our students will be heading home for break with their post-graduation employment already arranged.

The parents I met with couldn’t be more proud of what their sons and daughters have accomplished at the Carlson School, nor could I.
