Press Release:Even Buffett Isn't Perfect

FORBES' CHIEF INVESTMENT STRATEGIST VAHAN JANJIGIAN TO SPEAK AT THE CARLSON SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT

MINNEAPOLIS / ST. PAUL – Today's turbulent economy has even seasoned investors looking for guidance. Understandably, many are eager to follow the lead of the world's most revered investor, Warren Buffett. But Vahan Janjigian argues that the "Oracle of Omaha" favors the implementation of policies that are not favorable to investors. In his September 23, 2009 talk at the Carlson School of Management, Dr. Janjigian, Chief Investment Strategist at Forbes and author of Even Buffett Isn't Perfect, will address Buffett's policy positions, investment strategies, and other profitable paths.

“I refuse to portray Buffett as the deity of the investment world. Yes, I agree there is much to admire about him, but I’m warning that it’s naïve to believe that ordinary, often novice, investors can or should invest like Warren Buffett,” says Janjigian. Instead, the author looks at Buffett’s policy positions and strategies with an unflinching gaze. “In my talk at the Carlson School, I will outline a number of decidedly non-Buffett-like investment strategies that academic research has shown to be profitable.” Pointing out the novelty of his approach, Janjigian comments, “Dozens of books have been written about this economic guru, but mine is the only one willing to directly analyze—and criticize—Buffett’s one-size-fits-all approach.”

The Institute for Research in Marketing will hold two events with Dr. Janjigian on September 23 as part of its ongoing speaker series:
  • 3:00 – 4:30 Keynote Speech: “Even Buffett Isn’t Perfect,” Vahan Janjigian talk and Q&A. $35. This speaker series event is open to the public with a $35 registration fee. Registration is free for current University of Minnesota students and Carlson School faculty.

  • 1:30 – 2:30 Exclusive Engagement. $75.
